Agriculture and livestock

Throughout Bolivia’s tropical lowlands, as well as its temperate regions, we support under-privileged, small-scale, local farmers in the production of livestock and high-quality crops, which are rich in vitamins and nutrients.

Through its agricultural Centres, our Foundation promotes a sustainable agricultural model. We also hope to generate similar initiatives among small-scale livestock breeders and farmers, to help improve their incomes and quality of life, as well as the diet of the Bolivian population in general.

Covering the whole country, Pairumani Model Farm is a distribution Centre for Friesian-Holstein dairy cattle. The Applied Ecology Centre Simón I. Patiño Santa Cruz, meanwhile, aims to rehabilitate and improve the genetic basis of the Criollo cattle. This breed provides milk, meat and haulage, and is recognised for its excellent ability to adapt to tropical conditions. Both of these facilities develop pasteurised dairy products that, through their high nutritional quality, contribute to children’s balanced diets from an early age.

At our research Centres, cereal crops, pulses, fodder plants, potatoes and vegetables are all produced according to agricultural techniques that respect the environment. Varieties of seeds for corn, broad beans, peas and common beans are improved at our Pairumani Phytoecogenetic Research Centre and are distributed to farmers through our Pairumani Seed Centre.
